Tommies Search for Women's Rugby Head Coach Begins
The St. Thomas University Tommies women’s rugby program are on the hunt for a head coach after Mary Kim Schriver has stepped down.
Schriver spent one year with the Tommies, bringing them within 8 points of an ACAA Championship and cited time commitments as a major contributor to her stepping down.
“Due to my job and extracurricular involvement with my school and community, I am unable to devote fully to a head coach position,” said Schriver.
The Tommies went 4-2 in the regular season before advancing to the finals, falling to UNB 34-27.
St. Thomas Director of Athletics, Michael Eagles, is saddened by the departure of Schriver, who made her presence felt in the athletic community in her short time with them.
“I am sorry to see Mary Kim leave. I feel she did a great job in her first year but completely understand her decision. Coaching a varsity program is a big undertaking and it has to be at the right time in someone's life for it to work."
“It's been an extremely positive and memorable experience being back with the STU team,” added Schriver. “The support I have received from the players and athletic department was amazing. The players knew they had a few challenges ahead of them, but they never stopped until they figured out a way to overcome them, and that speaks to their character as people and athletes.”
“Given the current situation I don't have a timeline to name a replacement but hope to sometime this spring or early summer," said Eagles.
