Armstrong Commits to Tommies Women’s Hockey for 2026–27 Season
The St. Thomas University Tommies are pleased to announce the addition of Ashlyn Armstrong to 2026-2027 women's hockey recruit class.
A native of Welland, Ontario, Armstrong joins the Tommies’ defensive group bringing a strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive mindset. She developed her game with the Brampton U22 Junior program, where she gained valuable experience and embraced the demands of playing a disciplined, team-focused, defensive role.
“I’m excited to bring hard work and a positive attitude to the Tommies,” Armstrong said. “I’m ready to do whatever I can to help the team succeed.”
Armstrong’s decision to commit to St. Thomas University was solidified the moment she stepped on campus.
“From the area to the campus and all the people I met, everything about STU felt special,” she shared. “It immediately felt like the perfect fit for me.”
In the classroom, Armstrong plans to pursue Criminology. Outside of hockey, she stays active through soccer and volleyball, enjoys sailing, and values spending time with friends and family. When she’s not competing, she can often be found relaxing at the beach.
Armstrong spoke highly of her early impressions of the Tommies program and the coaching staff.
“My first impression of Coach Murphy was his hockey knowledge,” she said. “The way he explains the game really made me think differently, and it made me very excited about the opportunity to have him as my coach.”

She also highlighted the team environment she experienced during her visit.
“When I met the girls, they were incredibly welcoming,” Armstrong added. “I was lucky enough to practice with the team and immediately noticed the high compete level and work ethic. I knew right away this was exactly the kind of team I wanted to be part of.”
Looking ahead, Armstrong is eager to begin her journey at STU.
“I feel honoured to have earned a spot in Tommies Nation, and I’m really looking forward to what the next four years will bring.”
Coach Peter added, “We are excited to have Ashlyn commit to the Tommies for Fall of 2026. Ashlyn uses her size and skating ability to handle physical play and help move pucks into the offensive zone. She is very coachable and competes hard and will fit in well to our mobile D group. Additionally she is a player of strong character that fit in seamlessly to our team's culture. She has a bright future in our program."
The Tommies are excited to welcome Ashlyn Armstrong and look forward to the commitment, energy, and character she will bring both on and off the ice.
