Tommies Add Nova Scotia Forward Ava Beaton to Women’s Hockey Roster
Fredericton, NB — St. Thomas University Tommies women’s hockey program is proud to announce the addition of Ava Beaton to its 2025 recruiting class.
Beaton, a left winger from Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, joins the Tommies from the Nova Scotia Provincial Champion Greenfoot Capitals U18 AAA program. Known for her strong work ethic and competitive spirit, Beaton is eager to bring her energy to the team this fall.
“I chose St. Thomas University because its small campus and community culture were very inviting,” Beaton said. “They also have a very supportive women’s varsity hockey program that I am excited to be a part of.”
Ava is interested in pursuing studies in psychology and criminology and looks forward to getting involved both on and off the ice. When she’s not playing hockey, she enjoys pickleball, golf, and traveling.
Beaton is excited to join a program with a reputation for its strong team culture and supportive coaching staff. “I think the STU program has an amazing culture where all the players seem very welcoming, and Coach Murphy is very approachable and attentive to each and every one of his players,” she added.
Last season with the Greenfoot Capitals U18 AAA, Beaton played 41 games, including playoffs, recording an impressive 23 goals and 27 assists for a total of 50 points.
“Ava is a player who possesses a high hockey IQ and great vision, which she demonstrates at both ends of the ice,” said Tommies head coach Peter Murphy. “She is first to pucks and is a great playmaker either in zone or off the rush. Upon meeting her, her character was evident and it is no surprise she was named captain of her team. She showed very well at the U18 Atlantic Championships and we see her as a valuable part of the Tommies’ bright future and we look forward to working with her in the fall.”
Tommies look forward to welcoming Ava to Fredericton as they continue to build a competitive and tight-knit women’s hockey roster. Ava is the 3rd recruit for the Tommies for 2025-26 AUS season following Carys Cross (SK) and Grace McGunigal (AB).
