St. Thomas University Athletics Welcomes Tayler Cohen to the Women's Hockey Program

Fredericton,NB- St. Thomas University (STU) Athletics Department is thrilled to announce the newest addition to the Tommies hockey program, Tayler Cohen, a talented goalie hailing from Richmond, British Columbia.

Tayler Cohen comes to STU with an impressive background, having honed her skills at the Southern Alberta Hockey Academy U18 AAA program. With a reputation for dedication both on and off the ice, Tayler Cohen is poised to make a significant impact on the Tommies program.

"I bring my dedication on & off the ice, and my competitive level drives me to push myself. I bring my strong technical skills, rebound control, and passion to the net," expressed Tayler Cohen, showcasing their commitment to excellence in goaltending.

In choosing STU, Tayler Cohen cited the welcoming community atmosphere and the supportive environment for learning as key factors. "The smaller classes, supportive environment for learning, and the opportunity to grow made it feel right at home," Tayler Cohen remarked.

In addition to their athletic pursuits, Tayler Cohen is eager to explore academic opportunities within the Bachelor of Arts program, with interests ranging from criminology and sociology to economics.

Beyond hockey, Tayler Cohen enjoys staying active with extracurricular activities such as softball, golf, and hiking during the summer months.

Reflecting on the STU program and Coach Peter's influence, Tayler Cohen noted, "With Coach Peter coming from a goaltending background, his shared experience and background were very invaluable to me. His passion and drive for the female hockey program made me realize that I wanted to become a Tommie."

Tayler Cohen brings an impressive statistical record to the Tommies, having finished the season with a 2.92 Goals Against Average (GAA) and a 0.916 save percentage.

Head Coach Peter Murphy expressed his confidence in Tayler Cohen, stating, "In looking for goalies, we are always looking for goalies that like to compete. Tayler shows she has a great competitive level in her game and shows a real commitment to improvement at all times. We are confident she will adjust quickly to the USports level and end up being a key part of our program moving forward."

The entire STU Athletics Department extends a warm welcome to Tayler Cohen and looks forward to seeing their contributions both on and off the ice in the upcoming seasons.

Tayler joins previously announced Alexie Palchinski (Cudworth, SK), Tristyn Endicott (Kerrobert, SK) and Megan Kirpatrick (Strathmore, AB) as part of the 2024–25 recruiting class.
