Aimee O’Neill Joins STU Tommies Women's Hockey
Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies are thrilled to announce the addition of Aimee O’Neill to their hockey program. Aimee, a talented forward from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, brings a wealth of experience to the Tommies as she enters her fifth year of play in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) league.
Aimee O’Neill is transferring from Saint Mary's University, where she has honed her skills and gained valuable insights from her teammates and coaches. “I will bring all the things I learned from my teammates and coaches at Saint Mary's and use it to build off of everything I am going to learn as a Tommie,” said Aimee. “I will bring a hard-working, 200-foot, and smart player that is going to bring what it takes to get to nationals.”
Aimee's decision to transfer to STU was driven by the university's unique offering of a Master of Social Work Program. “Unlike many other universities, St. Thomas University provides a Master of Social Work Program. I am fortunate to have been selected to pursue this academic program and being able to enter their hockey program at the same time is an honour,” Aimee explained.
The reputation of the STU Tommies program also played a significant role in her decision. “STU was always a tough team to play against. On the other side of things, it is not hard to tell that their program is run well with high expectations set on the players. Without speaking with Coach Peter for long, I could instantly tell that he cares about his players on and off the ice and wants the best for them and the program,” Aimee added.
Coach Peter expressed his enthusiasm about Aimee joining the team: “We are very excited to have a player of Aimee’s calibre and character joining our Tommies program. She is a versatile forward who plays in all situations. She has size and uses it well to win pucks and create offence as well as being a solid goal scorer. Aimee will fill a need at centre and will undoubtedly help us in special teams situations as well. Tommies Nation will love to have her in Green and Gold.”
In addition to her passion for hockey, Aimee enjoys playing softball and golf during her spare time, showcasing her love for sports and competition.
Aimee O'neill joins previously announced Katelin Moffatt (Winnipeg, MB) Tayler Cohen (Richmond, BC), Alexie Palchinski (Cudworth, SK), Tristyn Endicott (Kerrobert, SK) and Megan Kirpatrick (Strathmore, AB) as part of the 2024–25 recruiting class.
The STU Tommies are excited to welcome Aimee O’Neill to the team and look forward to the impact she will make both on and off the ice.
