Tommies Add Moncton Standout to 2025 Cross Country Roster
FREDERICTON, NB — The St. Thomas University Tommies are excited to announce the commitment of Moncton, New Brunswick’s Abel Nestor to the cross-country program for the 2025 season.
A product of Moncton High School and the Atlantic Selects Elite Athletics (ASEA) club program, Abel brings an impressive resume filled with dedication and performance. A multi-sport student-athlete and community leader, Abel has made their mark in football, track and field, and cross country—while also contributing to extracurriculars such as Yearbook, Relay for Life, Leadership, and the Knights Community Council.
“I hope to bring my absolute best within the Tommies program, both on and off the course,” said Abel. “Running for a university team has been a dream of mine since freshman year. I’m excited to bring a positive, kind, and fun energy while proudly wearing the green and gold.”
In competition, Abel boasts an impressive list of achievements, including five indoor track medals with ASEA—highlighted by a gold in the 4x400m relay (2023)—as well as standout performances in cross country. Most recently, Abel clocked a personal-best 5k time of 19:51 at the ANB Championships, finishing 5th overall.
Abel will pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at St. Thomas and is eager to continue balancing academic and athletic excellence.
“I chose STU because it felt like the right fit after attending their virtual webinars and learning more about their values. The cross-country program stood out to me, and I’m thankful to Coach Larade for being so supportive throughout the process,” Abel added. “He’s always been there to answer questions and help me feel welcomed.”
Head Coach Nick Larade is enthusiastic about the addition: “We’re thrilled to welcome Abel to the Tommies. Their enthusiasm for the sport and strong work ethic will make an immediate impact on our program.”
