The cross country and track teams at St Thomas University have bolstered their lineup with the addition of Fredericton native, Lars Schwarz.

The Ecole Sainte Anne product is the first signing under new Head Coach Nicholas Larade, and he certainly left his imprint on the 2017-18 NBIAA running season, claiming gold in both the 3000m as well as the cross-country championship.

Coming from a smaller school, Lars will relish the opportunity to be a part of a team atmosphere with the Tommies.

“I am excited to get to know all these new teammates and for us to run for STU as a team,” Said Shwarz. “It will certainly be interesting and exciting to experience this new aspect of the sport.”

Coach Larade is very excited to have Schwarz join his team.

“I am very excited to be working with Lars for the upcoming season. Lars has had good drive and a strong work ethic throughout his high school cross country and track seasons, and I expect that this will continue into our program.”

The recipient of the St. Thomas University Track and Field Entrance Award, funded by Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation, Schwarz is very happy to be bringing his work ethic and drive to the Tommies’ family.

“I am very honored to have been given this scholarship and will always do my best to represent St. Thomas and the Irving family at my fullest in all my endeavors whether it be on the track or in the classroom.”

The cross-country teams kick off their season in Antigonish, NS on September 22nd, when they travel for the StFX Invitational meet.
