STU Men’s Volleyball Adds Local Talent Ryan Murphy to Strengthen Setter Position
Fredericton, NB — The St. Thomas University Men’s Volleyball program is proud to announce the commitment of local athlete Ryan Murphy of Fredericton Junction, New Brunswick, for the upcoming season.
Murphy, a 5'11" setter from the Sunbury Bulldogs/Gravitron program, will help solidify the setter position alongside Brody Thorogood and incoming athlete Jeffrey Pinsent as the Tommies continue building a competitive roster for the future.
“Ryan brings leadership, competitiveness, and a tremendous work ethic to our program,” said Coach Mallet. “He’s a player who competes hard every day. We’re excited to add a strong local athlete to our culture.”
Murphy believes his greatest strength comes from his understanding of the game and his willingness to embrace challenges. “I feel my biggest strength is the knowledge I have for the game due to the coaching I have had over the years,” said Murphy. “I love a challenge and work very hard to accomplish my goals, and I will rise to any occasion given to me. I feel I am a great leader and work well with all my teammates.”
Known for bringing energy and positivity to every environment, Murphy says he prides himself on his “no quit” mentality. “I feel I bring a lot of positive energy to every game and practice,” he added. “I always want to compete and help push the team to be better.”
Murphy says STU’s competitive culture and tradition of success made the university the right fit for him. “What stood out to me was how competitive the team is and the success the program has had over the years,” said Murphy. “I want to be the best player I can be, and I want the best coaching and teammates around me to help me achieve that.”
As he begins his university career, Murphy’s goals are to continue improving his overall game, adapt to the university level, and prove he can be a strong presence both on and off the court. Long term, he hopes to compete nationally and eventually give back to the sport through coaching.
The STU Men’s Volleyball program is excited to welcome Murphy as another key piece of its future.
