Prospective Program: Arts
Fresh off having their star center-midfielder being names St. Thomas University’s Male Athlete of the Year, the men’s soccer program has another recruit locked up for the 2019-20 season.
Liam McCann, a goalkeeper from Cultus Lake, BC, will be joining the team following his graduation from Sardis Secondary School.
McCann will join an already elite goaltending core featuring Riley MacLeod, and the team’s Rookie of the Year and ACAA 2nd Team All-Star, George Tzimas.
“Even though I was not actively looking to bring in a keeper this offseason, when Liam’s CV came up, I had to try,” said head coach JR Morrison. “He is the captain of his select team, he gives back to his community and even though I was very up front about the quality of the keepers we have in George and Riley, he was up for the challenge of earning starts, and I like that.”
McCann is excited to join the Green and Gold for numerous reasons and can’t wait to put in his time to the school and soccer program.
“Of course, there is the academic reputation, the fantastic soccer program, and the beautiful campus,” said McCann about choosing STU. “What really stood out to me however was how welcoming and helpful everybody was during the recruiting process. I hope to bring not only technical ability, but more importantly to add to the culture at STU. I’ll also bring a great work ethic and a positive attitude.”
Morrison is happy with this signing, not just because of the talents McCann will bring to the pitch, but what he will bring off it as well.
“I am happy to announce the commitment of Liam to our squad. I think it is a good signing for the team, and the whole STU community will benefit from Liam on campus over the years.”
