The men's soccer team at St. Thomas University has added skill and experience to the 2018-19 roster with the addition of Jose Guevara and Juan Diego Correa.
Guevara, a centre midfield from Honduras, and Correa, a centre midfield from Panama, have committed to join the Tommies on the pitch this fall and STU head coach John-Ryan Morrison is looking forward to having their skill sets and work ethic in his lineup.
"Both of them like to stick a tackle, both are highly skilled, and both have experience playing in big games," he said. "Our 2018 recruiting class is shaping up to be very strong, and with the work ethic Jose and Juan bring, it won't be long before we make our way back to the league final."
Guevara is a former member of the U16 Honduran National Team—an experience he said contributed to his development as a player and a person. That background will allow him to bring his best to the Tommies squad.
"My greatest strengths as a soccer player are my vision on the field and my passes," he said. "Most importantly though, I will be a great teammate and a disciplined athlete."
Correa comes to the Tommies after spending eight years training with Julio and Jorge Dely Valdes—former professional athletes and Panama National Team coaches.
He intends to study Journalism and Political Science at STU, while helping the soccer squad climb the Atlantic Collegiate Association standings.
"I want to help the soccer team continue to grow," he said. "I will bring hard work, compromise, optimism and sacrifice to the program."
Guevara and Correa join Nunzio Marceca, of Winnipeg, MB, and keeper Riley MacLeod, of Brookfield, NS, in the 2018 recruiting class.
